Deal of the Day 10.10.07

Today I went to a new-to-me thrift shop in town. It's a charity thrift store, and all proceeds go towards new homes for needy families in the area. I loved it. It was during my lunch hour, so I was limited by time, but I looked at as much as I could. I was temped by, but ultimately left behind, a set of Yankee Candle bowls and votive holders. The votives were just 1.50, but my gift closet (shelf) is in flux and I really don't have anywhere to store it. But look what I did find! Four early 1900's Harold Bell Wright novels. They look like they've never even been read and are in great shape. I paid 1.50 each! Can you believe it? Did I mention they're hardcover? I also found three more Grace Livingston Hill books to add to my collection. (I am very slowly collecting her books, determined to get all of them, eventually, for very little per book.) They're easy reading, and I love her descriptions of home and domestic life. I paid just .50 each for these. I look every day for ways to be more frugal, but books are my weakness.

Three Day Weekend

My babysitter needs the day off, so today I get to take a day off and spend the day home with my boys. Working full time with two little ones, sometimes it feels like the only "vacation" days we get are when the boys are sick or the babysitter needs a day off. After we account for those days, we don't have much time left to take off just for fun. So we've learned to enjoy the days we "have" to take off. We don't have much planned, just puttering around the house. Lots of reading with three of us snuggled up in the recliner. I'll do a little cleaning, maybe list a few things on ebay. I'd like to get some fall decorating done. I'll bake some bread, make tuna salad, and probably one of my boys' favorite desserts--rice krispy treats. Only the best for my family. :) Also, Prince Charming and I celebrate our 11-year anniversary this weekend. We'll drop the boys off at mom's house, and go out for a rare treat; a dinner out that doesn't involve wrappers or cardboard containers. Then we'll hit a used bookstore and maybe walk around the mall for awhile before we pick up the boys again. Very low-key, but that is okay with us.

I just hope t-rex use the toilet

Well, it's taken years, but Major Mayhem has finally declared a career path. (He's four and a half.) He's going to be a Tyrannosaurus Rex when he grows up. Apparently, that includes a lot of roaring and stomping around the house. We also told him that t-rex eat a lot of meat, and he has eaten meat almost every day since. We did not tell him that t-rex also usually chase down and kill their meal, out of concern for the dog.

Jumping In With Both Feet

Hello! Welcome to my first post on my first blog. I am a working-outside-the-home mom who hopes to be a stay-at-home mom soon. I am a homebody, enjoying almost all things domestic, which is often what this blog will be about. And good books. And good deals. And most importantly Christ, without whom I would be a very different person.
